MediaFlowSwift vs habitat flow: Which One Fits You?
Both check a card's copy before you format it. habitat flow is a lighter, cheaper tool focused on the offload itself. It has a free plan and a live iPhone companion. MediaFlowSwift covers more of the work after the copy: categorizing, reviewing, archiving, reporting and publishing. It also starts at a higher price.
What does each app actually verify?
MediaFlowSwift computes a SHA-256 checksum for every file it imports from a card, drive or folder. It then reads the whole copy back and compares the two. SHA-256 is the hash function set out in the US government's Secure Hash Standard. Right before Clear Card deletes anything from the card, it checks again from scratch.
habitat flow computes an xxHash64 checksum for every file on the card and in the copy, then compares them. Each offload leaves an ASC Media Hash List report with the footage, per habitat flow's own site. xxHash64 is a fast, widely used checksum. SHA-256 is slower to compute, and it is the one written into a formal standard. Either one catches a copy that landed wrong.
What does habitat flow do better?
habitat flow has a Free plan that covers the whole offload, up to 150 GB a week. It is free with no time limit, not a trial. The Pro plan can mirror a card to two drives in one pass. The free iPhone app shows live ingest status and sends a notification when a copy is verified. So you can step away from the Mac while it works.
It also knows a few things about cards that save time on set:
- A card copied before shows up as copied.
- Shooting days come from the recording date, and footage shot past midnight splits into days.
- A wrong camera clock can be corrected before copying.
- A second card from the same camera goes into its own folder, never over the first.
- It only reads the card. You format when you decide.
What does MediaFlowSwift do better?
habitat flow sorts each card into a project, a shooting day and folders from a preset, and keeps the card's own structure. Its job ends at a verified, reported offload. Its site describes no clip review or rating, no numbered archive drives and no help with publishing. MediaFlowSwift does all of that after the same kind of checked copy.
It files each clip into Category and Camera folders by what the clip is. It offers frame-accurate review with star ratings and tags. It archives to numbered drives and records what went where. It writes PDF, HTML and CSV reports. Studio Pro also drafts YouTube titles, descriptions, chapters and tags from the finished video.
How far does the free plan go?
The Free plan's limit is 150 GB a week. One full 128 GB card fits inside it. Two of those cards make 256 GB, which is 106 GB over. A weekend shoot on two cameras would need Pro, or a wait until the week resets. A creator who fills one 64 GB card a week stays well inside the free plan.
MediaFlowSwift has no free plan after its 14-day trial. When the trial ends, everything you made still opens, and the files stay on your own drives. To go on working, you buy a plan.
What does each cost, as of October 2026?

MediaFlowSwift's Studio plan is $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Studio Pro is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. The full app runs free for 14 days, with no card needed. One plan covers up to three Macs.
In US dollars, as listed on habitat flow's pricing page on 19 October 2026: Free is $0 for up to 150 GB a week. Pro is $69 a year, or $149 once for a licence with no expiry and a year of updates. Prices are per user. Sign-ups before 24 October 2026 also get Pro at no cost until that date.
Which one should you pick?
Pick habitat flow if the job stops at a verified offload. A light shoot, a short trip or a budget that starts at zero all fit its Free plan. Pick MediaFlowSwift if the same checked copy should become an organized, reviewed, reported and archived project. Then you don't need a second app for the rest of the pipeline. Try MediaFlowSwift free for 14 days, no card, and see which one fits how you work.
